Tips for Planning for your First Team Mud Run

Mud Runs. The mere thought of them can make you want to jump into a nice warm bath. If you've never given one a go, though, it really is time you do. And here's why.

Team Mud Runs serve to be a fantastic method of socialisation, helping improve communication skills and strengthening those bonds between you and your group members. Together, you can both mentally and physically battle the challenges hurtling in your direction. Completing a run is tricky enough, but throw mud into the mix, and many are left feeling hopeless. But with others around you, buzzing with motivation and excitement, you'll find it that bit easier to pull yourselves together! Mud Runs are quirky and different, leaving you with memories you certainly won't forget.

The first port of call when prepping for a mud run is to register your whole team for the event, (making sure not to miss out on group discounts, mind). Decide whether you want to participate in an event where you'll run in small groups and combine your resulting times at the end, or run as a pack (some races award prizes to the best team). Whatever you go for, the name you label yourselves as must be fun, flashy and fearless. Selecting a name that's relevant to your cause and purpose will only increase your motivation.

By adding this chosen name to custom running tops or uniform, you'll be easily identifiable and team spirit will be through the roof! You'll feel a strong sense of belonging, and at the end of the race, your tops will be a little memory of your great achievement.

Team Mud Runs have co-operation embedded within their cores. It's vital you're there for each other, helping those through the trickier parts of the course and always being a source of positive, vibrant energy. Once you've committed to a team, your place and responsibility is sealed. Whatever you do, don't leave anyone behind! Although a cliché, it truly is the taking part that counts - whatever happens on race day, the most important thing is that you enjoy yourselves. Being selfish and putting your needs before others will backfire - you'll pretty much press your own self-destruct button.

During the race, you must be mindful of participants outside your group. Admittedly, we all have a tendency to do it - our eyes will be solely focused on the prize and the finishing line. However, others will be taking the same course as you, and if you're within a big team, you need to let them pass when you're waiting for your fellows. Mindset before and after the race is so important. Make sure to celebrate little victories, whether that be getting over a particular obstacle or that all-important finishing time. If things don't go your way, however, never put the blame on other people. After all, it's a team effort.

Now that you know a little more about mud runs, why not try and see for yourself?
